This vQmod extension hides the shopping cart from the header when it is empty. When a customer adds a product to the cart it then shows up.
I have put this together for version 1.5.2.1 and have not tested it on earlier versions. I'd advise you test it on earlier versions to ensure it works.

Installation:
1) Install vQmod if you haven't already (http://vqmod.com)
2) Unzip files and upload the contents of the 'upload' folder to the root directory of your OpenCart installation, preserving the directory structure
