Open your FTP browser and open the following folders.
/admin/view/template/common/
Look for a file named header.tpl
If it isnt there you need to upload it using the original download file.

Re: losing customization after upgrading
When upgrading opencart from a previous version its essential to backup and css folders and images that you have edited. Once you have uploaded the latest version of open cart (currenly 1.2.9) you can then copy the CSS and Images folders and then your website will look like it did before the upgrade...
