I wouldn't bother too much about keywords as hardly any search engine pays attention to them, but Meta Description will often be displayed as text under your page's URL in search results, so it's worth using this field to enter something that can attract potential customers, ideally copy text from product description etc.

Otherwise Google will just pick up block of text from your page to fill the gap (whatever algorithm finds "relevant") and this can sometimes end up with funny results..

ask yourself, what is a spider trying to do?
The 1st thing a spider is trying to do is see if it has permission to enter your files so you have to have a welcome spider snippet in the index. The next thing a spider does is try to categorize your site by reading the meta. Is it important? It can be or it can be trashed by the spider depending on how you use it. If you select lets say half a dozen key words and use those words thru-out your site as many times as possible then the meta is very important. If you insert a hundred off the wall key words in the meta then its a waste of your time because spiders are way smarter than you think. The tag line is also important but must be a short sentence and contain whatever you think sets you apart from your competitors because its the first thing a customer reads about you when your name comes up on their search site. Play fair with the spider and you will prosper, try to outwit the spider and it will bury you.
