Firebug is a godsend.
GIMP and Inkscape for graphics, mostly Inkscape as the export co-ordinates make it really simple to slice designs
Similar to Agent Ransack, It has a context menu in windows that allows you to right-click on a folder and choose "grepWin" and search for words inside all the files in that folder.
But unlike Agent Ransack, it allows you to globally replace as well. Very handy

1. Editor: Komodo Edit 5 (free)
I like it. It shows line numbers, it color codes structure, it remembers last position in document (even if you closed the document), and it lets you search across files. Then, of course, it allows several types of coding, understands which language you are using and acts accordingly.
2. FTP client: Filezilla (free)
Good simple client, gets the job done. fairly robust, doesnt drop files often, very easy to use GUI, remembers last connected server, can prefill local directory names....it's good and simple...
I also use Firebug plugin for Firefox for some code checking. Also free.

It is not exactly SQL Server enterprise/management studio but it's a start after phpmyadmin.
Also got a demo version of dbForge Studio which also looks useful.

Having now had a really good play with:
dbForge MySQL Studio Pro - http://www.devart.com/dbforge/mysql/studio/ ($200)
Navicat - http://navicat.com/en/products/navicat_ ... rview.html ($170)
EMS SQL Manager - http://www.sqlmanager.net/en/products/mysql/manager ($95)
HeidiSQL - http://www.heidisql.com/ ($0)
Without any doubt in my mind, dbForge MySQL Studio is the clear winner (the free Express version is a complete waste of space though, for example, restricting to 3 tables in Query Builder). There is a 30 day free, fully-functioned, trial version.
