I don't know if someone has contributed this already, I didn't see anything but I found the images annoying and made the site a little too "imagy" for my taste.  Hopefully someone will get use out of it.

First as usual, please backup these files in case a mistake is made or you want it back to the original configuration after you do it.

OK this is what I did, start with the category.tpl file.

Path:
\catalog\template\default\content\category.tpl

Change:

Code: Select all

<div class="categories"><a href="<?php echo $category['href']; ?>"><img src="<?php echo $category['thumb']; ?>" title="<?php echo $category['name']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $category['name']; ?>"></a><br>
TO:

Code: Select all

<div class="categories"><a href="<?php echo $category['href']; ?>"><?php echo $category['name']; ?></a>
EDIT^^ to add FIDO's help  mine still worked for me and did not cause any errors but there it is, cleaned up.

THEN in css:

Path:
catalog\template\default\css\default.css

CHANGE:

Code: Select all

.products, .images, .categories {
	float: left;
	width: 33.3%;
	text-align: center;
	cursor: pointer;
	font-size: 10px;
	height: 140px;
}
TO:

Code: Select all

.products, .images {
	float: left;
	width: 33.3%;
	text-align: center;
	cursor: pointer;
	font-size: 10px;
	height: 140px;
}

.categories {
	float: left;
	width: 25%;
	text-align: center;
	cursor: pointer;
	font-size: 12px;
	height: 20%;
	text-decoration: underline;
}

and then upload them to their normal locations.

use .categories settings in default.css (the one you just edited) to change the sizing, spacing of the subcats.

Hi April,

Just a word about what you've done (not a criticism - but some help). In the code that you altered in the category.tpl file, you have left part of the image tag in place. To achieve what you want, the line should read as follows:-

Code: Select all

<div class="categories"><a href="<?php echo $category['href']; ?>"><?php echo $category['name']; ?></a>
Leaving things as they will cause errors.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Fido-X.
