I am totally new to Opencart, but I used a cart before (that other open source one that starts with Z). Anyway, installation went smooth (on CentOS 6.6-i386). I can manage to get my way around.
But how I setup weight based shipping cost? I didn't see any options. Do I need to install a plugin for that?
Basically what I want is that most countries will be i. e.:
$1.00 up to 30g
Then add $0.20 per 10g up to 2000g
after that add $5.00 per 500g (or something like that)
I didn't see any filed yet were I can enter gram based money amounts. So is it hidden or do I need a plugin?
If hidden, where is it?
There is a built-in Weight Based Shipping, in Extensions > Shipping. Assuming your store default weight is set to grams, then you'd enter your rates like this:
30:1.00, 40:1.20, 50:1.40, etc.
If you didn't want to enter every bracket, you could get my Weight & Volume-Based Shipping extension. It can enter per-gram brackets, so you could enter them like this:
0-30 = 1.00
30-2000 = 0.20 / 10
2000-9999999 = 5.00 / 500
You'd then add a "Cumulative Brackets" rule, so they are added together cumulatively. Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any further questions.
