My client called me and asked how he links his merchant account to open cart...Im not too sure - I see tons of extensions but not sure what to do.
Ideally you will use the Merchant Account with payment gateway to do transactions online using major cards. May be your next question would be to ask what would he like to achieve by doing that (links his merchant account to open cart)
There are some things to consider before choosing one.
Is your company US based or Over Seas? (this is important because some will only do US Payments ex.(Authorize.net)
You will need to know your clients budget and what he is willing to spend on charges.
-For the most part most (not all) payment gateways come with a set up fee, monthly gateway fee, and merchant fee + PPT (price per transaction)
Here are some pricing structure for three popular gateways out there:
Pay Pal - US AND OVERSEAS CURRENCY ACCEPTED - REQUIRES SSL FOR PRO, NOT STANDARD Authorize.net -US ONLY - REQUIRES SSL Ogone - Second Leading Gateway for UK and EU - Requires SSL
I have the open cart extension for this if you want it
You have to call for their pricing.
More notes:
Most gateways will hook you up with with a merchant bank automatically but you can also choose to use your own bank if you already have a merchant account. Personally I would recommend a gateway that doesn't have control over your money. Pay Pal acts as a holding cell for your funds and they really have control over it. They can freeze your funds, customers can file disputes (reversing transactions) and more. Just give this some thought. A.net is simply a gateway that authorizes funds with the card holders bank, never touching the money. The funds go straight to your bank account after 2-3 days.
