Hello guys,
Please give me some advise.
I would like to be able to give my opencart 3 a facelift and get a decent theme. I see a lot of controversial discussions about this topis and I believe it is legit.
I had a bunch of problems to install and fix some issues until i made my opencart work so far.. My shop is not open but i need a decent, nice reliable theme.
Can you recommend any theme that looks good but won't break my installation, please?

Thank you for your support,
Kind regards,
Mike

You should choose a CSS-only theme such as:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=36706
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=37931

Well, this might not be as easy, as it looks. Simple Themes likely only consist out of
a custom Stylesheet, or some Theme Files, possibly in addition to an OcMod or VqMod
Extension. But more comprehensive Theme Extensions also use a range of other Files,
mostly, to add/change some additional Sections/Functions of/to a Theme. And that goes
up to Theme Extensions like a Journal, consisting out of up to 1'880 + Custom Files, thereby
fundamentally changing the Face of OC, and many of it's functions entirely. So, better be
careful, and make Tests in a separately installed Version, before eventually screwing up
badly.
Good Luck! ;)

For some reason i had so much trouble installing my actual Opencart that I am not willing to even try that is why i was asking all the GURU's here to just give me some advise.
. It looks like themes like Journal look very good but if the mess out your shop is not worth it.
I make backups at least once a day besides my hosting company.. :))

very much appreciated..

Thank you for your support,
Kind regards,
Mike

Well, sure it does, and it has a lot of features, to make all kinds of
settings in the Admin Section, instead of requiring some Custom
Mods, and/or forcing one, to manually change/add some Custom
Code.

But all that requires a lot of Custom Journal Code, and that also
has consequences, if one tries to add Extensions, built for a default
OC Installation, because the majority of them might no longer
work as planned, as they come for an OC default Installation.

And when it comes to Support, one most likely has to depend on
a Journal Professional, and such does usually not come for free.
It's therefore a rather fundamental Decision to make, what kind
of Theme Extension to use. Either stay with the 'default' OC way
of doing things, by Use of a simple OC type layout, or then get
something 'custom', but then, be willing to pay, if you want
to do 'more fundamental' changes, from, what comes by Default.
Good Luck ! ;)

Hi Mike,

We've been using Journal for 1 1/2 years and have had very few issues with it; it's packed with a lot of fantastic features for the end user. Of course if you have dozens of extensions already installed on an existing shop you'll want to look into their compatibility with Journal. If you're staring from scratch you can check for compatibility before you purchase them. Many people on here will say Journal is buggy, but you can definitely, definitely run into buggy extensions or bugs in Open Cart 3 as well. That pretty much applies to any content management system and the extensions and themes that go with them. At the time we were looking at themes we thought for $38 we'll just give it a try. We didn't see any reason to dump it during our migration from another platform, and haven't dumped it since. Just my 2 cents!

Regards,

Paul
