OC3.0.3.2
I have tried to change the thumbnail size in the theme under extensions but still get horrible jaggies in my jpegs despite the fact that I have uploaded 300ppi jpegs. Any tips please to get clean images through my site. See attachment.

300 ppi does not say anything about the size.
Post the sizes please, because I assume that they have the wrong sizes.

Doesn't Opencart re-size on-the-fly?
I uploaded smaller files are they look even crappier.

I've found the best way to get reasonable thumbnails is to make sure image sizes you define in opencart are in same proportion as uploaded image.
To keep it simple I use square images. These have height:width proportion of 1:1
So I ensure all OC image sizes are in proportion 1:1
To make my images square I photograph products on a white background then put the photo on a square white canvas in Photoshop.
Then generate jpgs in Photoshop with quality setting as low as I can make it without reducing vivsble quality, then upload to OC.
Have done tens of thousands of products like this.

I have uploaded 300ppi jpegs.
With digital files, ppi is meaningless, what you need to think about is the pixel dimensions of the image e.g. 1000px wide x 600px tall.

You can just sharpen it before you upload.
This is a standard 500x500 png - before, sharpened, over sharpened.

I don’t find over-shaperning has enough benefit in thumbnails and often appears a little odd when produced full size.

See the difference ....
This Image has 276 KB
Image
---
and it could also be shrinked to 71KB, without loosing much quality, just to mention it ... ;)
That's, why I love xx.PNG's so much !

Awesome! Thanks for the various replies. I'll try online optimisation and square image format.
