I'm using 1.5.04

I've tried pretty hard but I just can figure out how the 'welcome' module works with layouts. I can see how to place other modules, and that is a nice system.

'Welcome' is different and it seems to appear on my search results page (and one other page, I forget which). I don't see what's controlling the fact that it's there at all.

I promised the brilliant Jason Smith that I'd try and work this out for myself, but I've failed. I can't even find a search results page file that I can edit instead, though I'd assume this should be do-able from admin.

Thanks for any help.

p.s - www.ldwf.co.uk/store is the site.

the welcome module works just like every other module, it's just that it has a different layout and look. All the same information is still there. If you only want it on the homepage you should only have one tab on the left that says module 1 and the layout for that module should be set to home.

^ Yeah, I did that..and I thank you for your help. However, if you go to my site and search for anything, or indeed nothing, my welcome content appears at the top.

Now I totally accept I've messed up somehow, but I really have tried to work out this new layout concept.

probably a problem with your theme or something, because a default install does not exhibit this behavior.

Well, I coded it out from search.tpl but that seemed messy.

However, that file includes the content-top information by default so maybe it can't be disabled in admin. No doubt I'll get the idea of layouts one day, but for now I just wanted the store to look right.

no I didn't just say that off the top of my head I actually took my local install of a base install created a welcome message put it on home it showed up I did a search and it did not show up on the search results page, so it has to be something in a modification or theme that you've done.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. I appreciated the reply.

Even though I've got it sorted I'll try and understand why it was showing in the first place.

OK, I looked into this on a clean install and here's what is confusing me:

Quite reasonably I want the 'welcome' module to appear on my home page. So I added a bit of text and a couple of images and set it to be enabled at the 'content top' position on my default layout.

I set my store layout to be 'default'. I assumed this would do the trick but it didn't.

Then I changed my store default layout to be 'home' and also used 'home' for my welcome module.

That worked, but then it also appears on the search page.

Clearly I'm misunderstanding what the default layout does, so can someone explain how to stop my welcome module appearing on the search results page whilst still allowwing it to appear on my homepage please?

Many thanks...

Ok I see what's happening. You should have left your store set to the default layout. Then you should have set your welcome message to home. Basically the default layout for the store applies to any pages that don't have a layout specified. So when you had the store layout set to default and you applied welcome to that you didn't see it because there exists a more specific layout called home. When you set your store default to home then any pages that don't have a specific layout defined like the search result page got stuff from your template defined as default which was now home, so they showed the welcome message.

TLDR set store default to default and assign welcome module to home.

Sorry for hijacking the topic, but I ran into a similar problem:

When I click a product I still have the Slideshow and Welcome modules above it. All the product's details are below.

First page is ok, Slideshow and Welcome modules only.

I'm testing it on 1.5.1.1

I'm using Open Cart 1.5.4.1 on http://www.importpieseauto.ro

Settings are like this (no theme modifications):

System/Settings/Store/Default Layout: Default.
Extensions/Modules/Slideshow/Layout: Home; Position: Content Top; Status: Active; Sort Order: 1
Extensions/Modules/Welcome/Layout: Home; Position: Content Top; Status: Active; Sort Order: 2.

Problems:
- First page doesn't show anything, except Left and Right Columns. No Slideshow, no Welcome.
- When I enter a subcategory, both Slideshow and Welcome appear on top of it.
- Only if I click on a product all it's ok (no Slideshow or Welcome screen appear).

So, the only working thing it's the product's page.

What am I doing wrong?

I also tried this setup, which brings me closer to what I want to achieve:

System/Settings/Store/Default Layout: Default. In System/Layouts/Default/ Route is empty.
Extensions/Modules/Slideshow/Layout: Default; Position: Content Top; Status: Active; Sort Order: 1
Extensions/Modules/Welcome/Layout: Default; Position: Content Top; Status: Active; Sort Order: 2.

Problems:
- First page it's ok now, showing Left and Right Columns, Slideshow and Welcome in the middle. (http://importpieseauto.ro/magazin)
- When I enter a category, both Slideshow and Welcome appear on top of it (which should not). http://importpieseauto.ro/magazin/index ... ory&path=9
- When I enter a subcategory everything's ok. http://importpieseauto.ro/magazin/index ... &path=9_10
- When I click on a product, again, both Slideshow and Welcome appear on top of it. http://importpieseauto.ro/magazin/index ... duct_id=54

Yes, I too am having a nightmare with this. Using 1.5.3

System/settings - 'Edit' Store (on the tabs) Default Layout selected Default - Success - You have modified settings!

Extensions/Modules - 'Edit' Welcome - Layout = Home, Position = Top, Status = Enabled, Sort Order = 0

Nothing on first page of site.

Help!!!! I wish someone could add a solid method for this.

thanks all in advance
