Hi all,
New to OpenCart and I love it. Is there a good extension/plugin that can be added to OpenCart?
The premise is this:
Say I have a competition being run on my website and I have 1000 tickets for sale at £1 each. A customer comes in an buys say 5 tickets.
I'd like to assign a random number between 1 and 1000 to each of their 5 tickets.
So something like 45, 566, 755, 812, 998. These would be the entry numbers into the competition. I would also need to make sure that the numbers were only assigned once so that when more people enter they won't be given the same number.
To write up a formula in excel would be simple
There must be some kind of addon that allows this, happy to pay.
Thanks
Gordon

Hello all,
I have managed to get a person in the UK to do this for me. We've run some tests and so far everything looks good and will be ready to go soon. Thanks so much to everyone for getting in touch and offering to help me out. I'll keep you all posted once this is done.

Simply put using OpenCart for this has been hell. I’ve invested thousands into this and it’s still not working as it should.
I did get a UK developer but he’s really let me down at the 11th hour. He did 99% of the job and decided he didn’t need the work anymore.
While it’s not specifically an OpenCart problem, the modules you need don’t exist as you’ve discovered.
If you look at Wordpress and look for competition sites there, you’ll find loads that you can use and that cost very little. I don’t rate Wordpress to work with, but if you want something that can be up and running quickly and properly then it’s the only way to go.
I may well go that way myself. This is my second business, and quite frankly I could have had my site built for £2000 on Wordpress and wouldn’t have had any of these problems.
As it stands my site on opencart, which still doesn’t work properly has cost more than double that and to get it working will cost thousands more.
Every time I think “almost there, just one more thing”, something else doesn’t work. This weeks headache is getting a random ticket number that doesn’t duplicate.
I had a draw this week where I had 8 duplicate numbers out of only 60 numbers. Guess what.... Wordpress had a plug-in that does that for free.
I’m having to get the whole site rebuilt in order to achieve this in OpenCart. Not saying it can’t be done, but so far it’s taken 8+ months to get this site made (and that’s using developers on here) and everything is painful.
Remember developers on here although helpful (mostly), also don’t have the sense of urgency you’ll have.
I currently have 10 draws live, and each and every one of them is going to have duplicate ticket numbers issued. It’ll be a miracle if this business/site ever survives.
If this ever gets finished and working properly on opencart I’ll let you know. But for me the development costs have become prohibitive to say the least.
Have a look at every single competition site in the UK. Every single one is built on Wordpress/WooCommerce. That’s not by accident. Every plugin you need (including your payment gateway) works on there seamlessly.
Random ticket number generator, tickets sold/available sliders/prize gallery/discount codes/coupons/countdown timers and the payment gateway etc. all available easily. None of that was available to buy in the OpenCart marketplace.
For a business that sells normal products then OpenCart is the way to go, but what you (we) need is something that nobody on OpenCart has ever done. Essentially I’ve paid thousands to be the test bed for this.
So from where I stand at the moment any more money I throw into making this work on OpenCart is simply throwing good money after bad.
I’m at the point where I’ve been quoted £2000 to replicate my site on Wordpress/WooCommerce and that’s going to be what I’ll do. While it’s a blogging platform and not nearly as slick, it’s been proven to work.
I know that’s not you’ll want to hear, but if you want to try this on OpenCart you’re going to struggle believe me. If you can get this working on OpenCart I’d be first in line, but I’m quietly confident that’s not going to happen anytime soon.
Good luck
