On my Github repository, I modified the bestsellers extension module to rather fit by higher quantity of recent sales rather than focusing on the price and what the core originally delivers. But this does not seem like a good/professional solution. One can add options for different configurations and perhaps combine with a different extension to add to a wishlist or save or something else (but perhaps options will not be saved). I had to make products and options out of stock so that they can not be taken to the checkout to get a discount. Actually, this does not have to be a direct part of OpenCart since we just need to give an offer. I can see that there are some general buyback scripts available, so maybe I will go for that instead.
