is it ok to install oc with magic quote on just want to be sure i didnt have any problem installing it nor getting any error yet

but when i tried turning it off im getting internal 500 server error is that server issue tried doing the php.ini and .htaccess
You probably don't have the correct RewriteBase in .htaccess.

You don't need .htaccess enabled unless you're doing SEO URLs. Rename it back to .htaccess.txt and see if it resolves the problem.

say they can't turn magic quote off because of some shared issue anyway i just want to know if magic quote affects only security not the program itself
Sorry to drag on for this topic here. I have seen more than one item on this, but still I donot get it 100% clear.
In case my ISP doesnot allow adjusting the server level php.ini and MC GPC = On
- Can OC run with MQ off?
- What are the consequences?
(During the installation of 1.4.7 on my new ISP, with MC = on, I noticed I had to set all file permissions to 777 - is that the result of MC = on? Then what is the risk of those permission settings?).
- Is there a proper workaround or should I move ISP?
- What are the workarounds?
(I see a php.ini at OC level (with MC = off), does that do the job as well?)
