Actually, I'm away without internet access for a few days. I want to spend some time updating my shop on opencart during this period. Is there any way I can do this, i.e. download my shop as it is now on my laptop hard drive, upgrade it and then upload it again after I have an internet connection?

Several ways to achieve that - all are ending on localhost
1. https://www.apachefriends.org/de/index.html
or
2. https://sourceforge.net/projects/wampserver/
or
3. install all manual (if you are not an experienced developer, not really recommended) - there are several howtos > use your preferred search engine
3.1 If you are using Mac OS X then you have already a webserver installed

A. Choose your system from above and install.
B. Make a complete copy of the current shop (files and database - database only with phpMyAdmin!)
C. Copy the files into the desired folder (depends on installed system, see their readme)
D. Import the database
E. Edit both config.php files
F. Start your local copy

Thats' it.

Tipp: use php 7.4 as base, with that setting you can adjust a few scripts to have it simplier afterwards.
Such in case you want to use same php.version on your live server (which is recommended due several reasons).

Hi Abby,

Following are the steps -

1. Install XAMPP
2. Download the Latest Version of OpenCart
3. Go to xampp ->htdocs
4. Rename OpenCart config files
5. Open XAMPP and start MySQL and Apache
6. Go to localhost and then click on phpMyAdmin. Here click on New, provide a database name and click on Create
7. Now go to localhost/shop in your browser and you can see the installation wizard
8. Fill the form for settings
9. Give unique username and passwords

Thanks!!!

The original poster didn't say what OS he's using, Above suggestions are only good if he uses Windows, or Mac OS X. If however he uses Linux such as Ubuntu then it's ever so easy to install a server via its built-in package manager like Synaptic, by just search and clicking on Apache, PHP, MySQL, PHPMyAdmin etc.

One thing which should be considered is to set up a local replacement of the Google fonts because even when on localhost OpenCart keeps trying to access remote fonts.

Override Engine * Integrated VQMod * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Rich Snippets * Google Tag Manager * Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Survey Plus

That's why I have written this:

And forgot the Linux variant - thx.

Correct, to host fonts locale, read this (basically valid for all templates): viewtopic.php?f=182&t=164592&p=771646#p627727
