Still in PHP 5.5. I remember when we upgraded from PHP 5.3 to 5.5 it took a few weeks before we got things working 100% again, so we never did further upgrades after that.
How do we modernise the site?
On one hand we have a site which has so many amazing functions.
On the other hand we are stuck with old technology, it's not even mobile ready.
Mobile ready wasn't a thing when we built it.
Got a feeling we will end up leaving opencart and start with something else.
As there are now a few platforms which do out of the box what we custom built years ago.
Any suggestions? It's kind of hard to leave our site as it is superb but looks like an old wreck.
Thank you.
but if you want to see another (old) 1.5.6.x Version, still working
with latest PHP v.7.4.13, just check my links below. Otherwise, in
order to move up in Versions, means, that you have to get your
Database upgraded, and to learn, how to handle new techniques ...

With these specs, other than upgrading, I'd believe it.Cutephoria wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 12:41 amWe have a great site from an OC version way back when, with so many modifications, almost never from the app store.

If only our site was so simple we would not be facing this dilemma.IP_CAM wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 1:15 amWell, you did not mention exactly, what OC Version you use,

We currently have approximately 130,000 assets which if delivered in full is approximately 1.3 terabytes.
I know there are bigger data sites, but it just gives you an idea of what we're dealing with.
There's no place to mention the version on these boards. ;-)

Yup, I know that, unfortunately it's more than just me involved and I don't have permission.
We will probably start again with one of the platforms we've found which take care of most of our needs, we will lose a lot of control though. We won't be able to tinker with things to make things just how we want. And if for some reason the company closes, we will lose our site overnight. Or we could just continue running the site on our old OC with php 5.5 for as long as possible. The site has good usage and we don't get complaints.
Whatever, good Luck !

Although our customers and other users are welcome to post negative things about us and link to us, we ourselves don't link to negative posts about us. To you that is funny, to us it's quite sensible. Anyway a link makes no difference. The issue remains the same.
