Everything looks perfect but I do not see option to noindex certain products. Is it also possible to noindex entire individual product section?

Let's say I just want to index categories only. Is that possile?

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hello and thanks for your interest in SEO BackPack.

You can add the product manually with the robots.txt editor (inside the module). There is an example in the module which you can use to disable product URLs from indexing.

Hope this helps!

ricky709

ricky709 8 years ago

There is a huge difference in disallowing url from robots.txt and adding meta noindex parameter in head. I hope you know that.

Blocking access through robots.txt doesn't stop Google from indexing the page. It would end up in being indexed with message ""A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt – learn more"."

I hope you understood my question

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hey Ricky,

Absolutely right there.

However, this should still mean that the page won't be displayed in Google's search results. Still, if we have high demand for this feature, we will include it in one of the next releases of the module.

Let us know how this works out for you.

If I have two products with same name and don't want add [sku],[model],[random] what URL will be generated for second product?

Mostly in other modules it generate something like:
product-name.html
product-name-1.html
product-name-2.html
...
What about this module? I just want to add some prefix only on duplicated urls. It is possible?

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hello JSF,
Thank you for your interest in our product.

The module is automatically adding a random number indicator to the products with the same name in the end of the SEO URL. Let us know if this answers your question. If the generated URL is not by your liking, you can always change it from the Advanced Editor in the module.

OpenCart LT

OpenCart LT 8 years ago

I hope yes. Don't really understand what is random number indicator, but that is OK.
P.S. I missing some good features:
1. Custom URL redirect for multistore/multilanguage. For now with your module products can have different urls for each language, but /cart , /login URLs will be the same to all stores/languages?

2. Would be nice to see generated URLs examples before click "Generate" button. Now you click and no way to back if you did a mistake :)

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

1. Now is the same for all languages. We can make it multi-lingual in the future.

2. If you do not go through the quick fix page, but go manually from the URLs & Linking tab, you will be able to see the generated URLs after they are generated. If you notice any issues, you can easily copy the bugged URLs and then change them manually from the "Advanced Editor" tab.

Let us know how this works out for you.

Hi! we need to fix:

1. Search Console 404 errors like this:
/index.php?route=product/category&path=260&sort=p.model&order=DESC
or
/index.php?route=product/product&page=1&product_id=667

note: these ids are related to our old website and most of products and categories are changed or deleted.

2. google bot also start to scan disabled languages urls and we need an automation (or similar solution) to fix it.

Can we use these extension features to solve it?

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hello and thanks for reaching out. On your questions:

1. Currently we don`t have functionality which counts the 404 errors.
2. This is a great idea, we will need to research and see if its possible.

Is there an email where we can get back to you on both of these questions?

Hello
First off, great app, also bought the nitro pack. I can recommend these apps to anyone and the issues I have below are probably minor issues which only I seem to experience since I have not read anything else about them anywhere:
1. from google merchant center, I am getting errors that there are too many redirects error. Not sure if this is a SEO Backpack or Nitro issue. It's happening to all my products. Additional information: I have Journal2 installed.
2. Second issue is more with Nitro Pack. Sometimes the CSS of parts of my page appear to be slightly corrupt since they do not render properly. (backgrounds missing from the main menu, logo different size, slider image not correct dimensions. I can resolve this by clearing the Nitro Cache and only seems to happen in Google Chrome.

I assume that SEO Backpack and Nitro are fully compatible with each other and Journal2?

The URL to the website is reefbasics.com

I'd appreciate your help on this.
Thanks.

Review after 1 day using:

This extension creates a copy of oc_url_alias table, called oc_seo_url_alias, but the purpose is the same as the original one. If you deactivate or remove SEO Backpack, the latest product seo urls must be added to the original oc_url_alias table.

The Store logo link to home, from any product page, become your.domain.com/index.php?route=common/home instead of simple your.domain.com (as SEO expected)

I uninstalled SEO Backpack after I realize that I can install SEO Pack PRO (purchased 2012) since it was updated for OC 2.x ( https://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=marketplace/extension/info&extension_id=6182 )

SEO Backpack has better GUI and is more simple to use, but I came back to the more complete SEO Pack Pro.

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hey, thanks for the review. Here are our comments:

1. This extension creates a copy of oc_url_alias table, called oc_seo_url_alias, but the purpose is the same as the original one. If you deactivate or remove SEO Backpack, the latest product seo urls must be added to the original oc_url_alias table.
----------
The tables are not exactly the same. The original table does not have field for language ID, which basically means that you cannot have multi-lingual SEO URLs. Our table contains that field, which allows you to have multi-lingual SEO-friendly URLs. We had plans to just add this field in the core table, however, in OpenCart 3.0 modifying existing tables will not be allowed, so the only way for you to have multi-lingual SEO URLs is with another table for the links. (edited)

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

2. The Store logo link to home, from any product page, become your.domain.com/index.php?route=common/home instead of simple your.domain.com (as SEO expected)
---------
This is something that does not depend on the SEO module. The link for the logo is added in the template itself, so you just have to change the URL in the template and you should be good to go. (edited)

3. SEO Backpack has better GUI and is more simple to use, but I came back to the more complete SEO Pack Pro.
---------
At this point our module is 99% percent ready for OpenCart 3.0, while the SEO Pack PRO is not, so if you plan to update to the newest OpenCart version in the future, you may not be able to install the SEO Pack PRO right away or if you do, some of the functionalities may differ, while with SEO Backpack, regardless of the OC version you will have the same features.

Hello, I consider to purchase this SEO extension. But I have some a concern. My store adds this on page=2 of category when you navigate to page=2
href="https://xxx.com/category" rel="prev"
href="https://xxx.com/category?page=3" rel="next"
Google Serach Console has reportet many duplicate meta tags for sites https://xxx.com/category?page=2 and https://xxx.com/category. It seems tha Opencart makes some SEO issue here. It adds wrong links to rel="prev" and rel="next". How does your extension treat this issue? I couldn't get rid of this SEO issue which Google Serach Console points to.

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hey and thanks for reaching out,

The duplicate content issue should be solved automatically by OpenCart's canonical links. If your website does not have them, most probably the template that you use has removed them or it did not implement them correctly.

Let us know if you need any additional info on this one.

My store adds canonical links to products and categories, but not to pagination sites such as page=2, page=3 etc.

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hey and thanks for reaching out. This is most probably added from a module you are using. Reference could be pointed out as iSearchCorporate, which has 1 000 000 products:

page 1 - view-source:http://isearchcorporate.demo.isenselabs.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=17
page 2 - view-source:http://isearchcorporate.demo.isenselabs.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=17&page=2

Source is always: <link href="http://isearchcorporate.demo.isenselabs.com/index.php?route=product/category&amp;path=17" rel="canonical" />

Is there a free trial? even if its for 1 hour only, just to check the app before buying ?

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hey,

Thanks for reaching out.

Unfortunately we can`t give a trial period because once someone fixes their SEO upon the removal of the module the SEO still remains fixed. What we do is we have live demos of all of our products. We are quite well recognized in the community: https://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=support/partner. On top of that we offer Guaranteed Premium Support and have a 30 day money-back guarantee https://isenselabs.com/pages/refundspolicy.

With all that being said, I think you shouldn`t worry about a trial.

Hello,
can this product set canonical urls for products or even categories?

For example, multiple products are just different color variations of one main product, but handled as separate products in the database. Setting a canoncial to one specific product for the sub products would be very helpful to avoid duplicate content. Same problem, but different issue approach: Products reachable via main category (store.com/category1/productA), sub-category (store.com/category1/subcategory1/productA) or even direct (store.com/productA).

How do you handle these problems?

iSense

iSense 8 years ago

Hello there

OpenCart is already using canonicals and it is using them pretty well
Here is an example from our demo page

http://seobackpack.demo.isenselabs.com/components/monitors/samsung-syncmaster-941bw
http://seobackpack.demo.isenselabs.com/samsung-syncmaster-941bw
as you can see, the first link is a nested product in two categories
and the second link is the same product but with a direct link
If you check the source, you will notice that both links has the same canonical URL
http://seobackpack.demo.isenselabs.com/samsung-syncmaster-941bw

Hope this helps!
