This VQMod adds the ability to redirect any category to any other page within your store, or to any custom URL.
You can redirect to:
- Information Pages
- Standard OpenCart pages (e.g. Home page, Contact Us, Log In, etc)
- Any Custom URL
Links within the store are altered to match the target URL. This means that there are no extra redirects with your store, which may be frowned upon by search engines. All standard areas of the site will be updated to use the new redirected link information. This includes:
- The main menu at the top of the site
- The category module traditionally used in the sidebar
- Category links on category pages (e.g. sub categories)
- Breadcrumb links
Redirected categories are excluded from the Google Sitemap feed. This is to avoid duplicate entries in your sitemap which may be frowned upon by search engines.
There is a safety measure included which means that you will not be able to create a redirect to a category that already redirects somewhere else. This is partly to avoid "page bouncing" (whereby you get auto-redirected from page A to page B, then to page C, then to page D), but mainly to avoid redirect loops (page A redirects to page B and page B redirects back to page A).
There is also a check included so that you cannot delete the target of a redirect whether it is a category, product, info page or manufacturer. Attempting to delete the target of a redirect will generate an error message. This check has been included so that you don't end up with dead links on your site.
A new "Show Redirect Sources" button is added to the top of the category, product, information, and manufacturer areas of the admin system. This allows you to select pages / items (one or many) within a section (e.g. products or manufacturers), click the "Show Redirect Sources" button, and see a highlighted selection of all the categories which link to the selected items. This is particularly useful when you are trying to delete an item (e.g. a product or an info page) and need to remove all redirects first.
IMPORTANT: I take no responsibility for where your custom URLs go. If you manage to create a redirect loop using a custom URL, please don't complain to me about it. The use of custom URLs is at your own risk and expects some common sense to be applied! It will accept any URL that begins with http:// or https://
*** NEW ***
