Set the order your product by category, easy sort order in admin, better listing in your shop
You can have a different sort order for a different categories and subcategories.
For example in the components category your first product can be 'Samsung SyncMaster 941BW' in the component>monitor category your fist product can 'be Apple Cinema 30"'
