With the help of "Category Display" module you can display the category at front end.You can easily display the category with image at front end with the help of this module. You can easily create the module and can assign those module at any layout available at the Design -> Layouts.

You can select the number of category to be display in one row and also can set the height and width for the image.
You can select the category which you need to display at the front end. You can choose Number of item per row (Number of item per category) for the front end the available options are 1,2,3,4,6.
